Tech world's Free-losophy

Companies are spending billions to keep their content free, and here's why. For the four guys behind Twitter, the 190 million users shooting off 65 million tweets every day, making it big had been a cinch. Making money was providing a little harder. Jack Dorsey, Dick Costolo, Evan Williams and Biz Stone thought they'd like to see some return on investment, they had launched in 2006, spent thousands of hours writing code, skipped meals, got new glasses but no moolah - not a dime.
So at a press conference in April 2010 they announced 'promoted tweets', a big step for the boys and their 'sms service'. They were going to have to be brave and tell their 190 clients tht Twitter would soon carry advertisements. But why was that such a big problem" Welcome to the world of digital advertising; you may run away if it scares you.
When a Time magazine cover put YOU 'in control of the information age' they heralded the age when YOU, as user, could dictate, avoid and do the one thing that could even bring Bill Gats down to his knees - log out! Bying for your attention, Google's Android Skype, Facebook, Youtube.. you name the online hit, you paid nothing for it.
