MODERN LIFESTYLE AND OBESITY

Man has always craved to perfect his lifestyle and struggled immensely to achieve the set targets of a great living. The traditional way of survival has been replaced by a modern outlook. Over the past decade, every individual’s pattern of living has undergone a drastic change Western food culture has gained prominence replacing the nutritious recipe’s of the ‘Grandmas kitchen’ that were healthy. An increasing number of career-oriented youth, diet-conscious population, a western way of life, globalized cuisine, anytime anywhere availability of food stalls have all led to a very unhealthy eating habits among everyone of us.

Presently, we are living in a society that is attracted and at the same time forced to have a lifestyle that is very disturbing and unhealthy. Irregular work hours, professionalism of men and women within a family, constant warnings of medical experts over reduction on consumption of fatty foods have forced us to binge on junk food. Financial independence at a young age, lack of adequate knowledge about the need for a balanced and nutritious diet, over-eating, alcohol consumption, pub culture, have all contributed towards the growing number of obese people around us. The toddlers are introduced to non-nutritious food from a tender age by the so-called modern parents, unaware of the problem of fast food consumption as a root cause of “OBESITY” among young and old alike.

The absence of a balanced nutrition that includes fats, proteins, vegetables, fruits, calories, etc. combined with a good exercise routine, that are essential for a healthy living has increased “OBESITY”. A false notion about reduction of essential oils and fats lessen the risk of health problems has made us opt for easily available option of fast food. We have failed to make people know about the necessity of nutrition. Trouble has invaded us in the form of ill-health conditions like blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, etc. that we have called for, paying no need to the actual problem for all these conditions.

As can be said, it is never too late to develop a good habit, we need to act now and stress about the hazards of fast food. Awareness programs can be conducted for children right from the school level and also prioritize a healthy life pattern for people working in the corporate sector. Need for exercise should be made known and yoga classes conducted to curtail the constantly growing OBESITY issue, just as the weighty word that it is.

We, the society have ourselves created this problem and it is only we, who can curb it. Obesity is not always genetically inherited but largely influenced by our lifestyle and eating habits. It is the elders who need to start living and eating healthy and gift a better life for an active and obese-free society to the young ones. It is time we felt responsible for our problems and act accordingly. Practicing effective yoga and other exercises to cope with work-related stress, balanced diet, non-consumption of alcohol can be a small beginning to fight the big war against OBESITY.
